Biamp Systems is an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of networked audio digital signal processing platforms designed for use in commercial installations. We are based in Beaverton, Oregon and have been in business for 35 years, although the last 10 years of this have brought us great growth and a reputation for continuous innovation. We are looking for a User Experience Architect with a generalist range of UX capabilities to help us to continue this growth as we enter the next phase of our development.

As the User Experience Architect, you are responsible for the discovery, concept definition, interaction design and specification of the User Experience for the complete range of Biamp Systems’ digital audio platforms.

You can defend your designs because they are based on fundamental research: behavioral, contextual and/or other user-centered means of capturing information from your users. You have the spark of out-of-box thinking, highly developed reasoning skills and the joy of “playing pretend” but you are serious about your work and can describe it to highly analytical-thinking engineers and analysts.

Equally important, you can speak the language of business. You recognize the importance of your work to the fundamental strategy of the company and are passionate about moving the interests of the business forward through your designs within the constraints of the strategic direction and resources of the company.

Your flair for expression is tempered by the needs of your users; your passion for creating a holistic vision is grounded in the understanding of technical constraints. You are comfortable creating a sketch on a napkin, a whiteboard, presentation software, or any number of Adobe products. You can formalize your thinking into use cases, flow charts, wire frames and specifications. Prototyping in all of its forms is your method of communication – almost any media will do, as long as it facilitates a conversation with your audience.

You appreciate the help of other team mates – whether within the product management team or engineers, analysts, program and project managers. Even as you believe design is best crafted from a single vision, you enjoy the collaborative effort, taking feedback and criticism as a means of improving the end result.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with internal and external resources to identify new market opportunities.

Specifically, they are looking for a user experience director (pitching and bringing in new projects, direct client partnering and strategic account direction, defining scope and strategy of projects, gathering requirements and defining problem space, building and managing a multi-disciplinary design team of up to 10, defining and implementing the appropriate project-specific production process, defining project and design strategy, and overseeing all design and production activities), and a number of senior UX designers (structuring and coordinating requirements capture, planning and conducting all primary research, distilling research into concepts and design solutions, creating top level IA and UX design assets, defining product journeys and flows, overseeing the production and refinement of detailed UX assets from junior team members).

The UX director roles will pay up to $160k, and the senior UX designer roles will pay up to $140k.

What do they make:

This team is aligned to one specific client, who have had a relationship with the agency going back many years, and are currently AOR for them. Simply one of the largest consumer brands in the world, with a multitude of touch points and digital products, across E and M commerce, platform and product, service design, and marketing stuff.

The majority of the work is web and mobile, ecommerce and marketing, with the other products making up the remainder. A current project on this team involves first re-imagining, then redesigning, an entire retail service from scratch, including everything from web presence, application design, touch screen kiosk and retail design simultaneously.

How do they make it:

The team is kept deliberately small and agile, to allow for better collaboration and a leaner process. There is no waterfall, documentation-heavy work going on anywhere. Requirements are captured, research is undertaken, assumptions are made, and then rapid ideation to prototyping will take place in as short a time as possible, tested, ratified with further research, and then iterated again, until polished and ready for build. The team will always consist of UX, visual design, copy and developer, with each pillar taking a more forward role depending on the project phase, but no pillar ever being removed from the process

What are they looking for:

This agency is renowned for producing some of the most beautiful, award winning, and well designed digital products and experiences anywhere in the world. A creative powerhouse, but who have managed to make user experience the core around which the projects revolve.

For the director position, you would ideally have previously led a small team, or have been mentoring and overseeing more junior practitioners in a ‘project lead’ capacity, ready to take a step up. Your client facing skills must be out of this world, and your ability to cut to the core of a creative brief, without losing sight of the user needs, will be key. Experience of setting direction for a product, and guiding others in the creation of the key assets to communicate and build that product, is integral to the role.

For the senior UX designer roles, experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams, across and end-to-end process (research, requirements, ideation, UX deisgn, testing and iteration) is key, as well as experience of working on very rich, interactive consumer products.

Drop me a line if you want to know more.

Kind regards,

Product Designers @ Meetup - New York , New York, United States

Meetup is seeking creative Product Designers who have a passion for crafting simple, well-designed and fun user experiences that go beyond traditional web-based application and site design.

Meetup began as a scrappy, lean and mean startup dedicated to doing whatever it took to enable face-to-face Meetups around the world. With a small, engineering-centric dev team, we sparked Meetups for millions of people in thousands of cities.

The path we took left us with a website that is vibrant and full of life, but one that's also messy, inconsistent, and sometimes even downright frustrating to use. We know we can't reach the next millions of people without making thoughtful, simple-to-use, beautiful design a top priority.

That's why we need you. We're building Meetup's first design team. Join us and reinvent the online experiences that will help millions of people discover, spark, and get involved in local, real-world communities.

The role:

You'll evolve rough ideas into touchable, testable prototypes -- mapping out experiences, designing and prototyping HTML interfaces, and iterating, iterating, iterating (we run about 10 usability tests each week in our in-house lab).

You'll help build out our live style guide, creating new reusable interface elements and refining existing ones.

You'll work closely with other designers, engineers, and product managers.

You'll explore, experiment, and help shape the future of Meetup.

Who we're looking for:

You're a generalist-specialist (http://markdotto.com/2011/04/15/fatten-up-those-ts/). Interaction design, visual design, HTML/CSS prototyping, design methods. You're good at all of these and excellent at at least one of them.

You've have experience designing projects that span web, mobile, and email.

You have an online portfolio of projects (some of which were self-started) that will knock our socks off.

You're quick.

Every member of the Meetup Team is expected to: be an Innovator; be a Collaborator; be a Champion for their ideas; be an Expert; have High Standards; be dedicated to the power of self-organized groups and our mission of A Meetup Everywhere About Most Everything ("MEME"); and most importantly, Get Stuff Done That Makes a Difference!

Want to learn more about how we work and our focus on usability?

Check out: http://www.slideshare.net/glusman/lean-usability

And scenes from our latest hackathon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttEb0C-IPyA

If the above describes you and your passions, we want to hear from you!

About Us

Uken is one of the only true cross platform gaming companies around. We build fun social and mobile games that make people stare, smile, jump, and feel awesome inside. We have a quirky nerdy culture that fosters creativity, collaboration, quality ideas, and a data driven mindset. We believe in moving quickly and improving constantly and that mantra is reflected in the weekly updates we make to our games and internal technologies. We have an appetite for pushing technical boundaries and we’ve done exactly that with HTML5. We work on products that are used by millions of people everywhere and we’re just getting started.
