8th International Conference on Design and Emotion

The 8th International Conference on Design & Emotion hosted by Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design (CSM) from 11-14 September 2012 - www.csm.arts.ac.uk/de2012/

This conference is a forum held every other year where leading international academics, practitioners and industry leaders meet and exchange knowledge and insights in the cross-disciplinary field of design, emotion and user experience.  The conference’s theme this year is ‘Out of Control’. For a number of years, uncertainty, crisis and chaos have been keywords describing the experience of many of us. A world driven by uncertainty, crisis and chaos demands different responses from design (as a community, a practice and a process).

CSM will welcome over 300 participants from academia and industry specialising in the subjects of design and user experiences. The conference programme includes over 110 academic papers, case studies, and posters, 11 workshops, 6 keynote speakers, a networking reception and a delegate dinner.
Keynote speakers include:
Ron Dennis CBE - Chairman McLaren Group
Hussein Chalayan MBE - Creative Director Puma
Dr. Michael Apter - Director Apter International
Clive Grinyer - Director of Customer Experience at Cisco
Cecilia Weckström - Global Head of Consumer Experiences at Lego
Bernardo Fleming - Head of Olfactive Design Studio at International Flavors and Fragrances
Declan O’Carroll – Director at Arup Associates
This will be the first major conference to be held at the new CSM building in King’s Cross, London, which was voted as the “Building of the Year 2012” by the Architect’s Journal.
Early bird registration is now open.  We look forward to seeing you in September 2012.
