Has anyone tried it out yet? I wonder what kind of interoperability there will be with Basecamp.
I’ve been using it for a week or so and I must say I really like it. Basecamp interoperability is restricted to importing your contacts ‘manually’ (i.e. it doesn’t maintain the sync) but I understand that they plan to more tightly integrate the two apps in the future. This would make it invaluable for me personally.
No need to talk about the UI, it’s usual 37signal simple elegance. Nothing too ground-breaking, just plain and simple to use for anyone. The system (as Basecamp) has layers of complexity so you can use it simply as an online address book or as what it basically is: a no-nonsense CRM solution. The structure is loose enough for you to make your own rules of how to use it. ‘Cases’, for example, could be project-based or issue based and tagging means you can just come up with your own taxonomy for organizing everything. I sometimes wish we had tags in Basecamp.
Just one note about the current version: lack of Basecamp integration means there are things Highrise can do that you may also do in Basecamp — effectively, track conversations. It’s a bit tricky to decide where Basecamp stops and Highrise starts at times. If/when both systems talk to each other and I can track conversations both inside and outside the confines of project it will become truly valuable.
