Complete crap unfortunately as it’s saying many sites are down even when they’re not at all.

I think you’re looking at it the wrong way. This little site doesn’t know for sure if you can see a specific site or not, but it assumes – since you’re inquiring about it – that you can’t. So it goes out and checks whether the target site is running.
Yesterday, all day, I couldn’t reach royalmail.com. When entering the URL in the app, it returned the message that everyone else can see the site fine, and the issue lied with my connection. It automatically assumed that I couldn’t see it…
